Michael Jackson Death (A Twitter VS. CNN Finale)

The news was sad, but the ability to break it on social sites BEFORE CNN is amazing. The speed of news is now at the speed of a Tweet, that simply can not be matched in old school media. They are struggling to catch up and they might NOT?!?

What's funny is that 2 days after the sad event, CNN did the same thing they did before with the Iranian elections, they put a huge touchscreen in the background, a pretty blond girl and made her say the following: This is our facebook page and this is our twitter name, please send us more info so we can keep you updated.
Please pause for a second… isn't that their job? to bring us the news?! instead, they came up with iReport , twitter and facebook to help them get the news. I really don't understand how anyone would be blind of that fact, that CNN is worth nothing now!

eBay has users police the site and turn people in. Do other company's work for them for free with no credit – exploitation or “community”?

IMO more and more companies and organizations don't do their job, reporting in the case of CNN or site policing on the part of eBay and instead pass on some of these tasks and duties to their members or the public. News media used to hire reporters to cover stories, take risks and get paid for their efforts. The people who tweet and comment for CNN are adding to the content without monetary compensation. Granted, they “volunteer” their efforts, but CNN and eBay both save money through this help. Did CNN delay the confirmation of death because they did not have staff to ferret out the truth? I'm questioning whether CNN and eBay are getting their work done by compensating the common man with an ego rush, getting their twitter name on the TV screen or giving someone “the warm fuzzies” – thinking they are part of a community (with a voice that disappears when policy changes.) CNN was not responsibly acting as reporters of the news, but rather as “repeaters” of the news. CNN isn't something that you get for free in your home, it's a service that you PAY for. I'm wondering if the lack of quality in eBay and CNN from unpaid efforts is a consequence of their desire for inclusion, community and participation on the part of followers, or a scam to save more money by getting people to work for free. It reminds me of Tom Sawyer getting his friends to whitewash the fence.

CNN is a news reporting company, was not built on community efforts. eBay on the other hand was built on community from day one, it is very natural for members to report others on eBay if something is wrong (aka the feedback system that was founded on eBay since the beginning). eBay members 'pay' eBay to host their items to sell, CNN viewers 'And advertisers' pay CNN to deliver news, so it is not natural at all for CNN to take the news from us! It's like I pay for TV service to watch CNN so I can send them my own news! same with CNN advertisers, they pay the big bucks for 30 second commercials for someone that does not have the news anymore! Which brings me back to the point of this article: CNN need to be shut down or simple work for the money they get paid for. eBay had nothing to do here at all!

Again my point exactly, there is no press anymore to begin with, so what freedom are we talking about, you had more freedom here than what CNN is giving to it's viewers, and no, the example simply didn't match the case here, it's like accusing Google of making big bucks and forgetting that it brings us search results for free, or accusing facebook for making millions to connect us with people we care about for free, your example was just side tracking this article, but in my opinion, I think that people should stop listening to the old fashioned media and start trusting each other more
