The Celebrity Apprentice 5 (Spying)!

All I can say is that business sometimes get dirty. Starting with a very big acting and spying game from the guys as a response to finding out that one of the girls was spying first, I think it worked out very well, for the girls that is. But I also think that Piers is a great project manager.

However I don’t think that the remarks Omarosa made at the beginning of the this episode had to do anything with business, she made it personal, and that’s not right.

Here is episode 5 exclusive summery from the blog:

Mr. Trump appointed Carol project manager for Empresario. But he let the men of Hydra pick their own leader – and they chose Piers.

The teams created an awareness campaign for “SolesUnited,” a new program that recycles old Crocs into new shoes for needy people around the world. As part of the project, each team would create a bin for collecting donated shoes. Two Crocs execs would pick the winning campaign.

On the Hydra team, Trace came up with “Wear Them, Share Them,” a terrific slogan for the campaign. The women chose “Share the Love.”

While the two teams were working in adjacent conference rooms, Vinny thought he saw one of the women standing outside the door, spying on them. Piers then decided to send Vinny into the hallway to spy on the women. Then on the spur of the moment, the two men staged a screaming argument intended to make the women think that they were at loggerheads.

After arriving in the hall to start his surveillance, Vinny had an inspiration. He knocked on the women’s door, told them that he couldn’t work with Piers any longer, and offered them his services. The women didn’t realize Vinny was a spy and they welcomed him onto their team.

Omarosa suggested that Empresario’s bin should be a giant Croc; a large poster next to it would show supermodel Carol dropping a Croc into it. The men opted for a simple, portable bin decorated with an image of Lennox.

Vinny, continuing his undercover activities, smuggled the women’s “Share the Love” idea to Stephen. But then Vinny had a change of heart. He decided that spying on the women was not fair and he decided to help them beat the men. He confessed to Marilu that although he had come to the women as a spy, he was now working honestly on their behalf. (He did not, however, tell her that he had already shared their “Share the Love” slogan with the men.)

While Carol was getting her photo taken in the hall for the Crocs poster, Piers showed up and began to tease her about “Sharing the Love.” That alerted the women that Vinny was a spy in their midst, and Omarosa fired him on the spot. Vinny left, but when he went back to Hydra, he and Piers had a real argument because Piers, when he teased the women about their slogan, had let them know that Vinny was really a spy. The argument between the two men turned so ugly that Vinny could not return to the Hydra team. He was a “man without a country.”

Before the Crocs execs, Carol made a terrific presentation of the women’s campaign. Their bin looked great, and they had beautifully extended their campaign with printed materials and t-shirts. Piers made a polished presentation too. But next to the women’s effort, his team’s paled.

In the boardroom, Mr. Trump asked Vinny to explain his spying. That caused another bitter argument between Vinny and Piers. But then Mr. Trump announced that Empresario had won the competition.

Vinny stated that he wanted to resign from the show. Even though Lennox and Stephen said that they would prefer to have Piers leave, Mr. Trump made the decision to accept Vinny’s resignation. So it was a resignation, not a firing, that ended this episode – certainly, one of the most unusual in Apprentice history.

My thoughts:

I think that to lie in business and to spy is not really a joke, it is very wrong and will always fire back at you.

Also attacking a colleague’s heritage, religion or race has no place in business. Make this a rule in your business or you will lose, a lot.

I think Vinny did the right thing.
